Planet Grapes - Wine without the Drama | iMunch

Kill me then cause this one's been sitting in my drafts folder for oh so long, but I finally am up to the writing challenge! :) My last foodie meet up(April 16th) courtesy of Zomato was one of the best nights of my life, as I finally got to understand better and experience for myself on how to appreciate a nice glass of the world's greatest drink- Wine.

Planet Grapes Zomato

Planet Grapes' motto is "Wine without the drama".. which I interpret as a place to enjoy wine without judgement- so if say, you don't know what to look for in a wine, you don't need to pressure yourself for that perfect bottle.

As with the motto, the place exudes a very casual and yet cozy ambiance, perfect for those dates or to just chill out with a couple friends... The point of the place as well is that you don't have to shell out lots and buy a whole bottle for just a taste of wine , as they have state of the art Italian machines that allow us guests to sample a sip, half glass or full glass of wine from the best wine regions of the world.

The wine tasting event that me and my #zoman friends did was pretty fun. I think I'd take it as a Wine 101/Wine Pairing Class, where in I got to understand more of the complexities of said drink, in a real casual and fun environment. :3

First point that Ms. Carla, our wine educator, was keen to let us experience is that wine can make anything taste even better. You just have to find it... So for our first Wine Taste test, we paired a

Kunde Family Sauvignon Blanc 2012

with... Squidballs.

The impression: WHAAAA?!

The taste: WHOA! Cool!

By using the 5s guide (above) on how to drink wine, you not only get to appreciate said drink more, but you also get to taste, see and smell the difference of each wine as you taste more and pair it with different types of food, be it quite meaty, oily, lemony sour and such... :3

Here are the other pairings that we did...
Planet Grapes Zomato
Paul Mas Chardonnay 2013 with Black Cod Steak and Fresh Mixed Salad

Planet Grapes Zomato
Paul Mas Cabernet Sauvignon

Planet Grapes Zomato
with Chicken and Pork Adobo

Planet Grapes Zomato

Napa Cellars Merlot 2011 with Chori Burger
I guess I was too tipsy already to remember taking a photo of the red wine before having the shot.. hehehe... :3

Urban Old Vines Riesling 2013 with Planet Grapes Dessert Sampler

And here I can totally confirm that I'm already tipsy to take any more photos.. :)

Out of the 5 wines that I got to taste, the ones that really made an impression on me is the Riesling, which is a type of "Dessert Wine". It really is the perfect wine for me after any type of meal, and for me, I consider it a dessert in it's own... Just don't pair it with Creme Brulee' as  the flavor of the wine turns more bitter than usual...

As for the perfect wine to pair with most of our pinoy foods (namely the oily and meaty adobo, tuhog sa kanto and even balut), I'd recommend the Paul Mas Cabernet Sauvignon (red wine) and the Kunde Family Sauvignon Blanc 2012 (white wine) as the vibrant and clean zesty lime taste of the Sauvignon Blanc gives more depth to the usual fares of fishballs and squidballs, and I can imagine the taste and smell of Cabernet Sauvignon being in harmony with our pinoy dishes like pork steak, adobo, and even lechon as it is a classic pairing for steak, with it's black berries and licorice flavor add that certain zing to the dish. :)

I had so much fun enjoying the different types of  flavors that wine and Planet Grapes had to offer, and I'm looking forward to the next! :)

  6. Aah! So that was why seeing Planet Grapes in Ayala here in Cebu made things feel really familiar. I saw it here on your blog pala but I failed to drop a comment. :)

Not a love of wine though but I think my parents would like it here.
