When Magazine Stories Come to Life: Top News Asia Meets Readers at the Philippine Readers and Writers Festival

There's something different about meeting the person behind the story you've just read. That was the vibe at National Book Store in Araneta City, Cubao, last August 14, when TAG Media Group brought Top News Asia and some of its cover personalities closer to readers during the Philippine Readers and Writers Festival 2026.

Spearheaded by TAG Media Group President and Editor-in-Chief Engr. Grace Bondad-Nicolas, the magazine signing brought together two personalities from very different worlds: Comelec Chairman Atty. George Erwin Mojica Garcia and corporate leader, former Congressman, and PAF Reserve Officer Brig. Gen. Michael “Mikee” Lagman Romero.

The afternoon turned into an engaging conversation about careers, leadership, public service, and the lessons that come with being in positions of influence.

Garcia's discussion centered on something especially relevant to young Filipinos: knowing the power of their vote.

With young voters playing a significant role in the recent elections, he emphasized the importance of having an informed electorate and strengthening civic education. After all, choosing leaders isn't just about recognizing names on a ballot. Understanding the issues and the policies behind those names matters, too.

For young readers in the audience, it was a timely reminder that being involved in the country's future can start with something as simple as staying informed.

Romero on the other hand shared a more personal side of his journey from business to public service. Having built a successful career in the corporate world early on, he talked about how wealth and success can go beyond personal achievement. It can also be a way to create positive change.

His experience as a public servant and his involvement with the Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command offered another perspective on what it means to use one's position to help others, particularly marginalized communities.

These discussions are what made the event feel more meaningful than your usual magazine signing.

The people on the covers weren't just faces on glossy pages for the afternoon. They were there to answer questions, share stories, and talk about the experiences that shaped their careers.

For readers, it was a chance to see the people behind the headlines in a more personal light. For Top News Asia, it was another way of doing what good stories should: bringing people together and giving readers something to think about after the last page. Once again,  TAG Media Group reaffirmed its commitment to promoting leadership, storytelling, and literary engagement across the country.

Because sometimes, you don't just want to read someone's story. You want to hear what they learned along the way.
