Easy French Toast Recipe at Home

Because of the Community Quarantine, we've had to be a bit more creative when it comes to food. Some of my favorite easy breakfast menu is the uptake on the classic toast- French Toast

What is French Toast?

French toast is essentially this stale bread that has been coated with dairy and eggs, and toasted to create a cripsy outer layer with a creamy, custard-y center. But if you're here in the Philippines, you don't have to use just Sourdough bread- even with a 2 day pandesal or extra white loaf bread you have at home, you'll still get that awesome taste!

Here's my simple French Toast Recipe:

recipes chic mix (6 of 11)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 medium or large eggs
  • 1 tbsp of brown or white sugar
  • 8 to 10 slices of tasty bread or any bread you have at home

optional:
  • a dash of cinnamon
  • a teaspoon or less of vanilla extract
  • you can use evaporated milk in exchange of the fresh milk in this recipe
Steps on Making French Toast:

  1. Get your ingredients.
  2. Break your eggs in a shallow bowl, mix in the milk and sugar. If you want a caramel-ish flavor you should use brown sugar.
  3. Place your pan in low-medium heat and coat with butter or margarine.
  4. Place your bread slices in the mixture and coat them evenly. If you have thick slices you can coat them for around 2-5 seconds per side. If you're using white bread or tasty, you should coat it as fast as you can on both sides to not loose the structure of the bread while cooking. You don't want it to be too soggy. Coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time.

  6. Transfer the coated bread onto the hot pan. Turn after a minute or until the bread is golden brown.
  7. Serve with any topping you might want- from pancake syrup or a sprinkling of powdered sugar to adding whipped cream and fruits on one side.
You can also freeze them by putting them on a baking sheet or parchment paper, putting them in the freezer and reheating them in the toaster or your pan for another day. It can last for up to a month or so.

Alternate French Toast Recipe using Condensed Milk

If you only have condensed milk, you can use my previous French toast recipe here.
It's the one that I posted even before the name of this blog is chic mix LOL.

Hope you are all okay, taking precautions and staying in your homes! Take care!
