Catriona Gray gets to be her own Doll at the Pinoy Barbie Exhibit at SM North EDSA

What do you get with a mix of an Iconic character that every girl models to be one day, Indigenous pattern of fabrics from our old tribes and the battle for our own freedom?

A Pinoy Barbie Exhibit in Celebration of 121 Years of Philippine Independence 

Barbie has been an icon for decades, and here in the Philippines, in celebration of not just her 60 years here but for the 121 years of independence our country has right now, she dresses for the part.



Barbie has been a model of the modern woman, wherein one can really be anything they put their heart into it- be it a doctor, designer or even astronaut. My daughter loved the doll exhibit and I can see in her eyes whenever she plays with her own barbie dolls that excitement of what she might want to be in the future.




In Celebration of Filipina Beauty, see Barbie dolls wearing locally designed fashion couture. Some of the ensembles are designed by local designers Amir Sali, Mak Tumang and Rajo Laurel. It also doubled as a design competition on contemporary couture. The top three designers were given awards. I personally loved Ginintuang Sisa and the Ibong Adarna concept.







And get to see Pinay Icons in the pageant scene like Ms. Universe Queens Ms. Pia Wurtzbach and Ms. Catriona Gray as barbie dolls. These will not be possible without the handiwork of expert pinoy doll artists- Allan Dave Ocampo, Christopher Flores, Eric Benito, Arvy Labrador, Marc Vandro and Precious Juliet Mirafuentes.


To open the exhibit, a real life fashion show was also held, featuring designs from budding filipino designers.
